Key Duties

Take charge of the upkeep and repair of our many interactive exhibits, ensuring they remain in tip-top shape to inspire wonder and curiosity in our visitors.
Assist in the installation and de-installation of rotating traveling exhibits, where you will have the opportunity to bring the magic of science to the Wichita community.
Tackle general repairs and maintenance tasks around the building and grounds, ensuring that every corner of our property runs like a well-oiled machine.
Lift, carry, and maneuver exhibit components and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds with ease, ensuring that nothing stands in the way of creating unforgettable experiences for our visitors.
Put your problem-solving skills to the test in mechanical engineering and fabrication applications, where you will be instrumental in constructing and refining the mechanisms that make our exhibits come to life. In addition, collaborate with the exhibits department to help bring new exhibits to life.
Thrive in a dynamic environment where you will collaborate closely with your team on projects, while also possessing the independence and initiative to tackle tasks solo when needed.

Qualifications

A passion for the intersection of science, technology, and creativity.
Previous experience in exhibit maintenance, technical repair, or a related field is a plus.
A knack for thinking outside the box and finding innovative solutions to complex problems.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

About Exploration Place

Opened in April 2000 after a $62 million fundraising campaign, Exploration Place is the largest science and discovery center in the state of Kansas. With a mission “to inspire a deeper interest in science and technology through creative and fun experiences for all” the museum attracts about 300,000 visitors per year to its location in downtown Wichita. Additionally, the organization has an extensive portfolio of outreach programs that reach about 50,000 students per year across Kansas.

Exploration Place recently embarked on an ambitious five-year strategic plan intended to increase on-site attendance to more than 500,000 visitors per year. Design and fundraising are underway for a world-class “destination playscape” on the museum’s 20 acre riverfront property, scheduled to open in late 2025. In addition, a 1500 capacity public amphitheater park will be opening in fall 2024.

With a strong Board and established senior leadership team, the organization recently renewed its 5-year core funding agreement with Sedgwick County.
