At Exploration Place, volunteers are an integral part of fulfilling our mission and performing a variety of jobs to keep the entire organization on the path to making science fun for everyone! Volunteers participate in activities that enhance your personal growth while serving a valued role in the museum and science education for our guests.

New for 2026
Exploration Place is launching a new way to connect with our guests — and we’re looking for curious, enthusiastic volunteers to help bring it to life.
Our new docent and ambassador roles are designed to add something you can’t replicate with signs or screens: real human connection. These volunteers will help turn galleries, gardens and our brand-new outdoor spaces into places where conversations happen, questions are encouraged and discovery feels personal.
If you love learning, storytelling or simply helping people have a great experience, this is a chance to be part of something new, meaningful and deeply woven into how guests experience Exploration Place moving forward.

Docent and Ambassador Roles
Gallery Docent: Become an expert in a specific gallery. Help guests with interactive pieces, answer questions, give fun facts and help guests if needed.
Garden Keepers: An outdoor, hands-on volunteer role focused on caring for the gardens and grounds around our amphitheater and playscape, helping keep these spaces healthy, beautiful and ready for play.
Play Ambassador: Roam the playscape to help make sure things are going well. This role will include helping people find their way around and helping with STEM Stations when we have them.

Requirements
- Must be at least 14 years of age unless otherwise noted per event.
- Volunteers 16 years and older must complete a background check.
- All volunteers must go through our application process.
- Each assignment have different requirements that may be sitting, standing, standing, interacting with visitors/vendors, outdoors, indoors, etc.
- Being helpful, passionate about science and community and ready to serve.
