Exploration Place will be turned into a Fortress of Slumbertude for the first-ever summer sleepover in the exhibits! Bring your friends and earn your superhero credentials – and official license – through a series of games and activities.

Wear your superhero t-shirts or pajamas and join is for a night of super fun, super shenanigans and super slumber!

Friday Night

6:00 pm – Check-in, drop gear for safe keeping and then free play in the exhibits

6:30 pm – Hero Huddle and announcements in the Live Science Theater

7:00 pm – Dinner in WaterWay Hall

7:30 pm – Activities: choose one, two or do them all!

  • Exhibit lights & sounds turn off at this time
  • Quiet zones begin

11:15 pm – Get ready for bed. Good night, sleep well superheroes!

Saturday Morning

6:30 am – Lights on and quiet wake up

7:00 am – Coffee and breakfast will be available in the lobby. Pack up camp and start heading out.

8:00 am – Event ends, thank you for coming!

Where to Set Up Camp

Where to Set Up Camp

Please wait until the designated time to set up camp so that all exhibits and activity areas can be used during the evening.

  • Camp can be set up in: DC Super HeroesKansas Kids Connect, the first floor of the castle in Where Kids Rule, Health Inside Out, Design Build Fly, Explore Kansas and the KEVA gallery. 
  • Exceptions are: Inside the executive jet or 2nd floor of Design Build Fly, the 2nd and 3rd floors of the castle and in the lower-level aquifer in Explore Kansas.
  • Don’t worry, we will provide a map for you at check-in to help you find your way.

  • Superhero Training Course

    Make your way through an obstacle course designed to build your super strength and speed.

  • Rescue Mission

    Follow clues throughout the museum to solve a mission and earn a prize.

  • Superhero Licensing

    Learn your superhero name, be assigned a super power and customize your cape and mask. We’ll snap a photo to create an official superhero license you can take home!

  • Super Speed Course

    Race remote controlled cars through Gotham. Which superhero’s vehicle will reign supreme?

  • Explore the Exhibits

    Smaller crowds and more room to roam provides a custom exhibit experience!

Event Details
  • Ages & Adult Supervision
    • Each child and adult in your group must purchase a ticket.
    • All children ages 5 – 17 must be accompanied by an adult during the entire event.
    • This event is for children 5 – 17 years and adults.
    • One adult may chaperone up to three children.
    • Each night will be limited to 125 attendees.

  • Arrival
    • Arrive between 6:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
    • Unload your gear in the circle drive and park in the main Exploration Place lot. Wagons will be available to use.
    • Bring in all of your belongings for the night when you arrive. We’ll help you stash items safely until it’s time to set up camp.
    • Check-in with Exploration Place staff at the ticket counter in the lobby.
    • You are free to explore the exhibits until the opening activity at 6:30 pm.
  • Dinner, Snack and Breakfast
    • Dinner will be provided. More info coming soon!
    • Movie snacks will be provided before we head into the Dome.
    • Breakfast will be grab and go items and, of course, hot coffee will be available for those needing the caffeine.

    If you have a specific dietary need and/or want to bring in outside food or drinks, please feel welcome to. Alcohol is prohibited. A microwave and limited refrigeration space are available. If you have more questions about meals or logistics, please call Erin at 316-660-0605.

  • Sleeping Area
    • Sleep in Gotham and campout with Batman, Wonder Woman and Super Man in the hit summer exhibit DC Super Heroes.
    • Other galleries available for sleeping include Health Inside Out, Design Build Fly, Explore Kansas, KEVA, Kansas Kids Connect and the first floor of the castle in Where Kids Rule.
    • Don’t worry – we’ll provide a map that fully explains the sleeping area!
    • Air mattresses or sleeping pads are highly encouraged. Don’t forget your air pump!
    • We’ll wait to set up camp until later in the evening, after the activities in the exhibits are winding down for the night.
    • Restrooms are easily accessible from all sleeping areas. Exploration Place does not have showers.
    • Access to wall outlets will be available, but not necessarily next to where you are sleeping. Don’t forget your charger!
  • Tips for what to bring for a comfortable night
    • The floors are concrete and hard. Air mattresses and cots are welcome and encouraged. Don’t forget your air pump!
    • Small tents can be set up in all exhibits, with the exception of DC Super Heroes. Tents must be freestanding and no larger than the size of a Queen air mattress. There are limited spaces that fit tents larger than this.
    • We will have wagons available to bring in your gear and move it around the museum, so don’t worry about limiting your bedding. Bring what will make you comfy.
    • We will have eye masks and ear plugs available for anyone who needs them.
    • Not all exhibit areas will have access to power or outlets. If you have a medical device that requires power, please talk with one of our staff and we’ll help get you connected.

    Note: If you want to sleep in the DC Super Heroes exhibit, please do not plan on using a tent. To allow space for as many people and groups possible, tents will not be allowed in this area.

  • Departure
    • Please check the museum for any personal belongings.
    • The event officially ends at 8 am.
    • All attendees must depart Exploration Place by 8 am.
  • Safety
    • All children, ages 5 – 17, must be accompanied by an adult. Each person in your group, children and adults, will need to purchase a ticket.
    • Adults are responsible for monitoring the children in their group and are asked to stay together during your adventure.
    • The building will be secured and the front doors will be locked at 7:30 p.m. and will remain so until 8:00 a.m. the following morning. Staff will be available to help anyone enter or exit during this time.
    • If you decide you do not want to stay the night, you may exit with the assistance of staff. You will not be allowed to re-enter.
    • Exploration Place staff and a security guard will be on-site throughout the event.
  • Refund Policy

    All tickets are non-refundable and non-transferrable. The only valid tickets available for Exploration Place events are sold directly through Exploration Place.
