Meet the Instructors

Hideki

Hideki

I started with yoga and quickly tried every class the YMCA had to offer when I first joined. Since 2010, I’ve been teaching Yoga and Zumba and later added Aqua Zumba and Flow Fusion to my lineup.

Flow Fusion is my favorite. It blends yoga inspired movement with strength and cardio and creates the kind of challenge I love. It also brings together my two core formats, Yoga and Zumba, into one class.

Outside the studio, I’m a huge indie music fan. Every shirt I wear to class is from a band I’ve seen in concert and I often use their music in my yoga sessions.

Mayra

Mayra

Mayra began her yoga journey in 2008 in California and has been teaching since 2017. She is a 500-hour certified yoga instructor, reflecting her dedication to a safe, intentional and meaningful practice. Originally from San Diego, California, Mayra brings a grounded, heart centered approach to every class she leads.

After relocating to Wichita in 2017, she continued sharing her passion for yoga with a special focus on serving the Spanish speaking community and making the practice accessible, inclusive and welcoming. She is now expanding her offerings in English as well and embracing new challenges and continued professional growth.

As a proud mother of two daughters, Kassandra and Klarissa, and her loyal four-legged companion Buck, Mayra’s classes are rooted in strength, resilience and compassion. She believes yoga is more than movement, it is a pathway to balance, healing and inner empowerment.

Liz

Liz

My yoga practice began in 2013. When I returned to the YMCA in 2021, I became a regular in a variety of classes and started teaching yoga in 2024. I love yoga because my practice feels different every day. We all have different goals we are working toward and I honor that.

My favorite kitchen gadget is the air fryer and my fail-proof recipes are garlic and herb chicken thighs and parmesan crusted pork chops!

Erica

Erica

Erica Tavarez has been a dedicated group exercise instructor at the Downtown YMCA since 2014. She has a true passion for teaching ZUMBA and brings energy and excitement to every class she leads.

Throughout the years, Erica has built strong connections within the Y community and formed relationships that feel more like family. While naturally a bit shy, she completely transforms when she steps into the studio, bringing confidence, charisma and a rockstar presence that inspires everyone around her.

Charity

Charity

With over 10 years of experience, Charity Carter is a dedicated Zumba instructor who loves helping people reach their fitness goals and have fun while doing it. She’s excited to join the Riverside Zumba team and can’t wait to dance, sweat and connect with the community.

Ereymi

Ereymi

My name is Ereymi C Santana Morales, also known as Ere by my friends and family. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and about 12 years ago I moved to Wichita, Kansas. I have always loved music and dancing and have always felt it was the best way to connect with people while growing up.

My first experience with Zumba was at the YMCA when I moved here in 2013 and it helped me feel a sense of community. Now as a beginner Zumba instructor, I hope to inspire my students to keep going with their health journey.

My class is designed so that anyone, no matter where they are in their health journey, can do it and have a blast.

Jessie

Jessie

Jessie began her fitness journey at the YMCA in 2014 and became a Group Exercise Instructor in 2018. Starting with Zumba, she expanded into STRONG Nation, Cycle, LIFT and Les Mills BODYPUMP and now serves as the Group Exercise Coordinator at the Downtown YMCA. She loves workouts that combine cardio and strength, especially Zumba, Muscle Pump, LIFT, Y-Box and BODYPUMP.

Fun fact: 95% of her closet is Zumba wear and she owns about 25 pairs of Zumba shoes. She also loves cats and traveling anywhere there is a beach.

In 2025, Jessie was honored with the Healthcare Heroes Award for Community Outreach.

Monita

Monita

My fitness experience started when I became a Physical Training Leader in the military in 1996. I am an ACE certified Group Exercise instructor and routinely teach multiple formats including Muscle Pump, Cycle, Y-Box, Step, water formats, Barre, Core and Body Blitz.

My heart belongs to cycle. I enjoy mapping rides to playlists and feeding off the energy of the participants.

In 2019, I ran a half marathon every month for one year and was able to run in six different states.
