Exploration Place Offers Free GSK Science in the Summer Program

June 10, 2021

WICHITA, Kansas — Exploration Place has partnered with the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia to offer the free GSK Science in the Summer™ program. The 2021 theme is Be An Engineer!

Exploration Place educators will visit schools, libraries and community centers across the region with the aim of inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers. Children in grades 2 – 6 will explore science careers, think scientifically and practice real science techniques.

In Be An Engineer!, students will tackle electrical, biomedical, environmental and structural engineering challenges through experiments, videos and live virtual events. They will explore the engineering design process as they find solutions to real-world problems, from managing a playground’s stormwater runoff to designing a sturdy lightweight pedestrian bridge.

“Scientists are finding solutions to problems today we never thought we would face, so it’s even more important now to foster students’ interest in science early so they can see themselves as future scientists,” said Becki Lynch, Director, US Community Partnerships at GSK.

Exploration Place, the largest science center in the state, has seen extraordinary growth in demand for its STEM education programming in recent years.

“We believe strongly in our role to help strengthen the STEM workforce pipeline for future generations,” said Adam Smith, Exploration Place president. “Exploration Place is proud of this effort to remove barriers so that all children can take advantage of their natural curiosity in a fun and encouraging environment.”

To register for this free program, visit Students are required to wear a mask and bring a sack lunch.
