The Explore Kids program is for gifted students that qualify for the free/reduced lunch program at a Sedgwick County elementary school.
The program includes a series of Saturday workshops and special programs designed to challenge and enhance the students’ science and engineering knowledge base.
Who is eligible?
Any Sedgwick County student in grades 2-6 who are identified as gifted or are recommended by teacher and principal and qualify for the free/reduced lunch program at their school.
What are the benefits of the program?
As many as fifty students per school year will receive:
Invitation to the kick of and end of year events, as well as special events just for Explore Kids
Free enrollment in EP programs/workshops (include Scout Activities)
Free Chirpie Backpacks for supplies and science journal
Snacks at each event/workshop
How can my child become an Explore Kid?
Students are asked to submit a one page essay (in their own writing) stating why they would like to join the program. Students also need to complete the application, click here to download. Once an Explore Kid, Always an Explore Kid!
Students that have participated in the Explore Kids program in previous years are encouraged to reapply. Submission of essay is not necessary – simply check “Previous Explore Kid” on the application. Guardian and principal signature is required to verify requirement still applies.
